The Medford Arts Center (advisory board) and The Friends of the Medford Cultural Arts were formed to raise funds and create programs for the arts. Over the next 12 years, the two groups have presented numerous art shows, concerts and literary events, but always in borrowed facilities. A home for the arts in Medford has been a shared dream over the last decade.
The dream was realized when the Medford Arts Center opened in the heart of Medford Village in June of 2009. It occupies an 1880s Victorian home next to the Medford Gazebo and park. The first floor has three spacious rooms used as art galleries and performance areas and a small sales shop. Upstairs is a large studio/gallery, plus office, meeting room and kitchen. From its inception, the MAC, as it is known, has been a multi-disciplinary facility where the visual, performing and literary arts all have a place.
Art and craft classes are, all with well-qualified instructors and continue each fall, winter, spring and summer season. Classes are scheduled during the evening as well as on weekday and Saturday mornings. The Mixed Media Art Group holds its monthly “meet-ups” in the Mac’s galleries.
Medford is a family town and children are an important audience segment. The Arts Center offers monthly Family Funday Sundays with programs in many genres, including puppet shows, interactive children’s folk-music programs, historical reenactment dramas, storytelling, crafts-making and the like. Two sessions of a week-long summer camp, WordPlay and more, debuted in the summer of 2010 and will be offered again each summer.
The MAC is an all-volunteer non- profit organization. To contact MAC or find out more about us, please email MAC at MedfordArtsInfo@aol.com
